The Greater Whitsunday Alliance team live and work in Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region and long before these places were known by their colonial names they were actually known as Yuibera, Koinjmal, Widi, Birriah, Barada Kabalbara Yetimarala, Jangga, Barada Barna, Western Kangoulu, Wirdi, Ngaro, Gia and Juru respectively.

We acknowledge the first and continuing custodians of this land and pay deep respects to Elders past and present.

Rich in resources.

Isaac’s wealth runs deep from the Bowen Basin to the centre of its bustling communities. Home to one of the world’s richest, cleanest, and highest-grade metallurgical coal deposits. The vast Isaac region spans an area of 58,869km2, and is home to 23,024 people.

More than 70% of those who call Isaac home, are in fulltime employment – one of the highest rates in Queensland.

Supporting 24,888 jobs, the Isaac region is located on country for which the Koinjmal, Widi, Birrian, Barada Kabalbara Yetimarala, Jangga, Barada Barna, Western Kangouloand Wirdi people are traditional custodians.

Fuelling growth and heritage.

From coalfields to cattle the Isaac economy mines the best of every sector. The Isaac local government region hosts 30 operating coal mines with another two under construction and 27 more in advanced development phase. However, mining is not the only contributor to the region’s $40.035 billion in economic output and GRP of $26.7 billion.

Key to the region’s diversity are strong livestock and agricultural portfolios, as well as an active cultural industries sector with the arts, history, community, and storytelling delivered via time-honoured institutions including the Clermont Historical Centre, Nebo Museum, Coalface Art Gallery and Dysart Art Space.
